There is no doubt that the Indian four-wheeler market has seen a paradigm shift because of the change in taste and preference among the patrons. Nowadays, budget vehicles have started offering premium looks and a good number of features, which used to be exclusive to luxury vehicles only.
Both the direct rivals have received a facelift, alongside major additions in terms of features and safety. As for the Nexon, it is one of the top-selling Tata cars in the country. One of the major contributions to its impressive sales is because of the optional electric version, the Nexon EV. On the other hand, the Hyundai Venue still misses out on an electric version. However, keeping that aside, let’s now dive straight into the comparison. Let’s begin, then.
Specifications
As far as the specifications are concerned, let’s talk about the underpinnings of these two vehicles. As for the Hyundai Venue, it is based on the Hyundai-Kia K2 platform that underpins other Hyundai cars (or Hyundai group), the Hyundai Verna and the Kia Sonet.
In parallel, the second facelift of the Nexon (the first facelift debuted in 2020), continues to be based on the Tata X1 platform. It also underpins the Tiago and the Tigor.
Moreover, both vehicles are available in petrol and diesel. Let’s start with the Tata Nexon. Its petrol version is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged Revotron engine, which is tuned to churn out 118 bhp at 5500 rpm and 170 Nm of peak torque at 4000 rpm.
The Tata Nexon’s transmission options include five- and six-speed manual transmission options. Further, it also has a six-speed AMT and a seven-speed DCT.

Engine
As for the Hyundai Venue, there are two petrol options and one diesel option. The 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine has an output of 82 bhp at 6000 rpm and 114 Nm of peak torque at 4000 rpm. In parallel, the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine can generate 118 bhp at 6000 rpm and 172 Nm of peak torque at 1500 rpm. Finally, the diesel Hyundai Venue is powered by a 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated diesel mill that can generate 114 bhp at 4000 rpm and 250 Nm of peak torque at 1500 rpm. It is also available in both manual and automatic transmissions.
Besides that, as far as fuel efficiency is concerned, the Hyundai Venue’s mileage (real-world) ranges between 15 km/l and 18.5 km/l. On the other hand, the Tata Nexon’s mileage ranges between 17 km/l and 24 km/l. Suspension and Brakes
Before we start, it is worth mentioning that most of the locally-produced vehicles are engineered by keeping the conditions of Indian roads in mind. That said, they can soak the undulations and bumps from potholes with ease.
So, as for the Hyundai Venue, it stands on a McPherson Strut with a coil spring at the front and a coupled torsion beam axle with a coil spring at the rear.
Similarly, the Tata Nexon stands on an independent, lower wishbone with a McPherson Strut with a coil spring at the front and a semi-independent, open profile twist beam with a stabiliser bar with a coil spring and a shock absorber at the rear.
Considering the Nexon’s price, it has a superior suspension setup.
In addition, the braking duties are taken care of by disc-drum brakes. For your reference, the presence of dual disc brakes can increase the braking performance over the disc-drum brakes.
The Features
Before jumping to the features, it should be worth mentioning that the offerings mentioned here belong to the top-most variant of these two vehicles. That said, the offerings will vary with the variant you choose.
However, there is one notable feature, which is exclusive to the Hyundai Venue in this comparison i.e., the ADAS suite. It is the segment-first offering. The ADAS suite comprises lane keep assist, lane departure warning, driver attention warning, lane following assist, high beam assist, leading vehicle departure alert, and forward collision warning with avoidance assist.
Paying the 2023 Hyundai Venue price, especially for the top variant, you will get six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a speed-sensing door lock, auto HVAC, a single-pane sunroof, a reverse camera with guidance, etc. Further, it has rear parking sensors, cruise control, an electrically adjustable seat (driver’s side only), fabric plus leatherette upholstery, a driver armrest with storage, and a cooled glove box.
It also has power windows (front and rear), electrically adjustable ORVMs, rain-sensing wipers (front and rear), an electric tailgate release, a digital instrument cluster, and a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel. For entertainment, the Hyundai Venue offers an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, which supports voice command, GPS and navigation, auxiliary, USB, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. This SUV also has an ambient lighting.
Exterior
For exterior lighting, the Venue facelift offers automatic headlamps, LED projector headlights, cornering lamps, LED taillights, and LED DRLs.
On the other hand, the top-most variant of the Nexon facelift has six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, child-seat anchorages, auto HVAC, a wireless charger, electric anti-glare mirrors, a 360-degree camera, cruise control, etc. Further, it boasts front-ventilated seats, electric ORVMs, rain-sensing wipers with washers (front and rear), a single-pane sunroof, voice command, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Besides that, it also has a cool glove box with an integrated cup holder. As for lighting, it has sequential LED DRLs, LED headlights, LED taillights, and LED fog lamps.

All-in-all, both vehicles are equipped with ABS with EBD, ESC, hill-hold control, traction control, automatic headlamps, ESP, rain-sensing wipers, and connected car technology. With the connected car technology, you can access the live vehicle status, live location, last-parked location, and upcoming maintenance, to name a few.
Prices and Variants
As far as the variants are concerned, both competitive vehicles have a long list of variants. The Korean car manufacturer Hyundai offers the Venue in five trims: E, S, S+ (or S Optional), SX, and SX Optional (O). It has a total of twenty-three variants. The Hyundai Venue’s price starts at Rs 7.77 lakh for the base variant, the E Petrol MT, and goes up to Rs 13.48 lakh for the top-most variant, the SX (O) Knight Turbo DCT DT.
On the other hand, the Nexon is sold in four broad trims: Smart, Pure, Creative, and Fearless. It has a total of fifteen variants. As for the Tata Nexon’s price, it starts at Rs 8.10 lakh for the base variant, the Smart Petrol MT, and goes up to Rs 13 lakh for the top variant, the Fearless Plus Petrol MT.
