What Crops Are Suitable To Prepare Silage?

Silage is a type of grass that will be getting ‘pickled’. It has a process that supports preserving that specific pasture for cattle like sheep and cows to eat when natural grass isn’t found or good to eat, especially, in the dry season there will be very hard to get grass to feed animals. In preparation for silage, there will be a big process in that, feed manufacture will be using some maize cutting machine, which used to cut the crops and grass in small pieces.

Some of the grasses will be cut as they want and then they are fermented to preserve more nutrients like proteins and sugars as possible. This fermentation process will be done through microscopic organisms that live in crops or grass.

The process will be done through acidic conditions to preserve nutrients and to form quality food for cattle to eat. Fermentation has the best result and higher pH form in silage that may get a bad taste, which is used to add sugar in lower amounts and also proteins.

What type of crops are used to prepare silage?

Crops have rich nutrients and proteins that are available with a high percentage of things to include in the feed of animals. It contains sugar and proper moisture which are good in adding silage making.

Some of the crops that used to prepare silage are given below:

  • jawar,
  • maize,
  • hybrid napier,
  • bajra,
  • oats

Some Of The Leguminous crops which are not used in silage making are:

  • Lucerne,
  • berseem,
  • Cowpea, etc. are not suited and unless molasses will be sprayed on certain crops when there is spreading silo pit.

When Should Be Harvest The Crop?

  1. Crops at the stage of pre-flowering, and when it’s time to come flowering, it should be started to harvest.
  2. Crops do not include more than 80% moisture during silage making.
  3. When crops include hollow stems such as maize, bajra, jawar, hybrid Napier that should be grazed to a small size to stop air and departure of silage.
  4. The crop with high moisture may be dried at least for 4 hours that will reduce moisture result by 15%. And the dry straw and hay 5-20% may be added.
  5. Suppose, if the crop will be overripe and extremely dry and when it is completely dried, make sure to add water when you pack that silo.

The main purpose of producing silage was to keep stable feed which has a great improvement of dry material, energy, and it is digestible nutrients while compared to another fresh crop in which animals eat outside roads. Microbial fermentation under the silo provides an end product that can change several nutritive features of a forage.

Well, the high-quality silage has a void of unwanted compounds that may be negatively impacted to cause animal performance, and the environment, and also net farm profits. This article discusses complete interpretation about some of the common crips to use silage and fermentation products, organoleptic properties, microbial populations, and variations in nutritive characters of silages throughout the storage process of silages including emphasis and perspective.

In these, maize harvester machines are the main thing to be utilized which keeps crops to cut with good quality. The combine harvester which is one of the best and a versatile machine that produces effectively storing crops in specific fields. It used to thresh, Reaping, and winnowing- after into three operations with a single machine that has several qualities that used to implements more. We hope these articles will be helpful to you.
